Carl Perkins - Blue Suede Shoes Solo 1 Breakdown Lesson
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.2 месяца назад
Carl Perkin's Blue Suede shoes set the Rockabilly Guitar world on fire in 1955. After digging really deep, I questioned whether there was any other way to play it with such an open ringy sound than to do it the way I've figured for this tutorial. Carl influenced all the greats that came after him and with him, including his contemporaries like Scotty Moore, Eddie Cochan, Cliff Gallup and Duane ...

The Diminished Guitar Playing of Brian Setzer

Cliff Gallup's Simple Triad Trick
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.4 месяца назад
Arguably the slickest and most creative of the founding rockabilly guitar players, Cliff had plenty of great ideas in his rockabilly solo's that we can learn from. After all, Brian Setzer, Jeff Beck , Darrel Higham and Danny Gatton all took plenty of cues from him, so we should too! In today's concept lesson, I show you two simple triads we can build licks from and how to move them around to pla...
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Tribute to Gene Vincent - Adrian Whyte and Chris D'Rozario
Просмотров 7284 месяца назад
Here is our little tribute to Gene Vincent with a nod to his version of "Somewhere over the rainbow". It steps off the rockabilly path and into the nostalgic word of Harold Arlen and Yip Harberg's 1939 classic, but like Gene, Chris does it with aplomb. I hope you enjoy! Disappointing.. this is the first video you did that I thought was seriously weak. You didn't mention any wisdom on where to begin with the tone controls on amp (bass/mid/treble. You didn't mention the tone knob, you didn't mention what pickups (bridge/neck/both) and also the high/mid/cut switch and some wisdom about how to use all of these different factors.

The Cramps was the funnest show I ever saw. I saw them in '02 in Seattle on 2nd Ave. Being a Gretsch and Poison enthusiast I was drawn like a human fly to front stage in front of Ivy. I was singing along at the top of my lungs. It was an intimate show, maybe 200 peeps. Towards the end of the show when Kristy slipped on the salvia that puddled at her feet, I made eye contact with Lux. He gave me a strange smile. I thought it was about the fact that I drooled at the feet of his wife. I meant no disrespect so I wiggled my way in front of Mr. Interior and he started shoving the mic in front of my face as I know all of their lyrics. On their last song Lux started acting like a zombie and pulled me up on stage. He began knawing on my head so I did what you do when a zombie chews on your skull and died. By this time Poison blistered into a reverberated and trebled hyper scratch as I lay lifeless and dead where Lux left me. By the climax of her fuzzy solo she shoulder strutted over to me as Lux escorted her into position. She bent over my face and began to pee. I did what any man does when Poison pees on you and started slowly lapin's it up as I rose back to life. As I 🌹 up and miraged back into consciousness I zombied my way back into the crowd. Thank You Lux and Ivy for an unforgettable nite I will never forget. Lux let me know that instead of resenting me for going ape for Ivy and the Cramps, he was honored that I am the biggest Cramps fan ever. That show induced my fondness for them ten fold, if thats possible. Poison is the queen of modern Rock 'n' Roll in my book! Lux proved his psycho presence on a level I had never witnessed that nite, wow, what a show!!!

FWIW thought I'd come back with mine... Guitar (Epiphone ES295 and Gretsch 5420TG) --> Tuner --> BOSS SD1 --> Mystery Brain --> Joyo American Sound -> PA yep no amp. Also FWIW as a 3 piece band we use a Bose Tonematch T8S mixer and two Bose L1S column speakers both with B2 subs. The bass player goes straight in too (no amp) and we have a little stand up drum kit just an overhead and kick mic. Seems to work for pub/small club gigs. Elsewhere just plug into the house system.

Ha I wondered where you were at dinner!! Great vid, man! Arthur Crudup's version of this song (he wrote it) is very different. I find it intriguing that Scotty More was able to get so much out of the initial riff! Amazing! Also, I think CCR's version is the definitive version!

Great guitar player that you are, I have to say, you also don't need to play everything at a superfast speed. To be honest, it's a bit off putting listening to you play so fast between chords and travis style picking. I don't recall many early rockabilly guitarists playing at breakneck speeds like that. I love your lessons, just being honest with my opinion on this one.
